Kristy Dodd
Hi! My name is Kristy Dodd and this is my first year teaching at North Buncombe Middle School! Prior to moving to North Buncombe I taught at West Buncombe Elementary School. I started out in 2005 as an assistant in an Intensive Intervention classroom and in 2011 I became the lead teacher in one of the Special Education classrooms. I grew up in Asheville, NC and attended Buncombe County Schools as a student.
I attended UNC-Greensboro receiving my Bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Child and Adolescent Development in 2001. I then worked for several organizations assisting refugees as they were moving into the United States and organizing events for an organization in Odessa, Texas. But in 2005 I moved back to my hometown and have been here since! In 2012 I graduated from Western Carolina University with my Masters in Special Education with a focus on Intellectual and Learning Disabilities. I have since been certified to teach students with severe and profound disabilities, behaviorally and emotionally disabled, and K-6 general education.
I never thought I would be a teacher growing up! I wanted to be a pediatric nurse or an Occupational Therapist. But I know that I was just running from what I was meant to do and that is teach students in special education. I look forward to working with the students and their families as we learn and grow each day at school
