Heather Cavner
7th Grade School Counselor
7th Grade School Counselor
Hello! I’m one of two school counselors at Enka Middle School and I have the privilege of following a cohort of students from 7th grade through 8th grade as they grow and navigate middle school together.
I grew up in a small town in Virginia, which taught me the value of hard work and the importance of community. I went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Family and Child Development from Virginia Tech in 2000, a Master of Education in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Oregon in 2003, and a Professional School Counseling license through Western Carolina University in 2021. I have worked as a school counselor since 2019.
As a school counselor at Enka Middle, I support students, families, and teachers in promoting academic growth, social-emotional development, and future readiness. I work with students individually, in small groups, and in classrooms to help them navigate friendships, manage stress and big emotions, build coping and problem-solving skills, and feel confident advocating for themselves. Middle school is a time of many changes, and my goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where every student feels seen, heard, and valued.
When I’m not at school, you can usually find me spending time with my family, camping, or biking.
