Welcome to my Classroom!

I have been teaching Visual Art for Buncombe County Schools since 2001. I taught at Leicester Elementary School for six years, before moving to Clyde A. Erwin High School. I find it very fulfilling to have taught in the community where I attended school, as I was a student at both Leicester Elementary School and Erwin High School. Both schools continue to enhance my educational journey; as we continue to gain new knowledge throughout our lives.

I am a graduate of Mars Hill University, where I earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in both Visual Art and Literature. My concentration in Visual Art was painting. Because I am curious, and my interests are very diverse , I also received a minor in Religion and Philosophy. I continue to make my own personal art, and I enjoy playing the piano in my spare time. My personal artwork may be viewed at Mountain Made Contemparary Art Gallery, located in Grove Arcade, downtown Asheville.

I teach Visual Art in a Disciplined Based Style, which focuses on Aesthetics, Art History, Art Making, and Art Critiques. I believe that each student has the capibility to learn how to create, which enhances their problem solving and critical thinking skills. I like to infuse student learning with as many styles and genres as I can. Visual Art is like all of the Fine Arts: Dance, Music, Theatre - IT MUST BE PRACTICED!

My hope is that students are inspired and search for knowledge that will help them to succeed in their life endeavors.
