Ms. Wiesner at Buncombe County Schools in August 2022

Teacher - Buncombe County Middle College - English III, English IV

  • I am a life-long learner who has been teaching English since 1997.

  • I have been National Board Certified in English Language Arts since 2004.

  • I am a graduate of Cary High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

  • Most of my career has been at Asheville High School where I was also an AVID elective teacher. I have also taught in Wake County Schools.

  • I am passionate about my family, our community, and lots of reading and learning.

I am a teacher because….

I like learning.

I like learning from young people who are often more open-minded than older people.

I like being creative as I try to keep us all learning and thinking critically about ourselves and our community.

When I am teaching, …..

I try to remember that we are all individuals.

I try to remember that we all have other priorities.

I try to remember that everything is connected and

that we are not always in a place to see how the connections impact us as individuals.

The experience in my classroom is…..

organized in my mind but not always clear to all students.

designed to be culturally relevant and rigorous and accessible.

In my class, students experience…..

a variety of writing assignments designed to help students become more effective thinkers and communicators.

a variety of texts and collections of words

intended to spark affirmation, connection and inspiration.

intentional activities designed to build a supportive learning community.

I choose to teach here because….

BCMC and BCCCI offer a space where teachers and students benefit from:

strong leadership and effective collaboration,

flexible scheduling and positive attitudes,

acceptance, adaptation and acceleration.
