PracticeS & Info

Attendance Policy

Attendance at practices is a critical component of track and field success as well as athletic improvement.

  • Practices are necessary for developing proper technique, fitness level, and teamwork.
  • Students who are habitually absent hurt not only their ability to succeed, but also damage the teams opportunities for success
  • These students also make it difficult for coaches to adequately prepare them for competition.

Excused Absences:

The following are considered excused absences where athletes simply need to notify the head coach beforehand.

  • Family Emergency
  • Illness (not in attendance at school)
  • Religious Conflict
  • Required school trip or event
  • College Visits for Juniors and Seniors

Unexcused Absences:

  • All other absences are considered unexcused.

Tardy Policy

Tardy Policy

Practices will begin no earlier than at 3:25pm.

  • This allows athletes the time necessary to change, see teachers and still get to practice on time.
  • Athletes are expected to be at practice on time every day.
  • It is important to maximize practice times so athletes can adequately prepare for competition and reduce the risk of injury.
  • Tardies of 15 minutes or less will be treated in the following manner
  • Arriving to practice more than 15 minutes late will constitute an absence

Excused Tardies:

The following are excused tardies and only require notice to the head coach as to the reason for the tardy.

  • Extended time for testing
  • Extended Special Help
  • Extra Help / Tutoring
  • Required school function or event

Track & Field Meet Expectations

Expectations for Meets

  • Track meets are an opportunity for athletes to apply the work they have done at practice, to push themselves beyond their normal practice times and distance, and to prepare them for competition in the postseason.
  • Track meets are also a critical component of coaching; allowing coaches to watch athletes in competition and use their performance to make adjustments or modifications to practice routines, better preparing them for future meets.
  • It is expected that track athletes will attend all meets scheduled and compete to the best of their ability in the events for which they are entered.

Scratching & Entries

No athlete should at any time scratch or remove themselves from an event.

  • If problems arise which might make it necessary for an athlete to scratch they must consult their coach.
  • A coach will be responsible for all scratches at a meet.
  • All members of the track team are expected to stay until the conclusion of any Championship meet, especially occurring on a Friday or Saturday.
    • We are a team and need to support each other.
  • Any questions or concerns with track officiating or rules should immediately be brought to the attention of a coach.
  • Athletes who fail to compete in meets or scratch themselves from events are subject to losing their spot in an event or relay, suspension or may be removed from the team.
