Physical and Health Education

RMMS PE and Health Overveiw

The first three weeks and the last nine weeks of school all students are in physical education. The students are graded on 80% participation (effort, being prepared, behavior, staying on task) and 20% test or written assignment. During the rest of the year students will rotate three weeks in health class, three weeks in physical education. The nine week grading period is broken down into 3 three week sections. Each of these three week section will be worth 33.3% of their final 9 week grade. All students rotate into health class four times during the year. Students will have either two health rotations or two PE rotations each nine weeks. While in physical education, your child is required to dress out daily in a gym suit and tennis shoes. The daily rubric students are graded on during physical education is a 10-point rubric as followed:

Effort = 6 points

Behavior = 4 points

Clothing

Please make sure your student has the appropriate clothing for gym. All shorts must be within the 5 in. rule of the knee.

All students are required to dress for physical education class each day. They are NOT ALLOWED to take PE in clothes they wore to school nor can they leave the gym in the clothes they took PE in. Students who forgot their gym suit will be given a clean suit to borrow for the day, sitting out of PE without a parent note or doctor note is NOT AN OPTION. Students have the option to borrow three times in a nine week period. On the fourth borrow it becomes a discipline issue. Gym suits are available for purchase or you may purchase clothing to be used as a gym suit for the year. If you choose to bring your own clothing the shirt must be GRAY and the short NAVY/BLACK. Clothing should meet dress code, shorts no shorter than five inches above the knee; this includes any shorts worn with compression shorts. Also, there should be no tank tops or sleeveless shirts. Students should have tennis shoes every day for PE and the same clothing for your student's gym suit needs to be worn for the entire year.

To reduce the risk of misplaced personal items we strongly suggest reinforcing to your child the IMPORTANCE of locking their locker at all times and double checking their items have made into the locker before leaving class. Items cannot be stolen out of a locked locker. Students get in a hurry between classes and do not actually get their gym suit in the locker. We find a number of clothing items on the floor between each class. There is a lost and found barrel in both locker rooms. If your child misplaces any items he/she should refer to the barrel.

The lost and found barrel will be cleaned out at the end of each nine weeks.

We also advise that your students write his/her name inside their physical education shoes and clothing.
