At this time, schools in Butte are moving forward with their board approved instructional calendars as planned. We are presently beginning to discuss the Governor's suggestion at the county and state levels, and we are considering potential impacts on all Butte County Schools. These discussions include consideration about student and faculty/staff safety, renegotiating contracts with employee associations, and other impacts such as transportation, meals, distance learning and equity.

This afternoon, after ongoing discussions with district superintendents and charter leaders, as well as Butte County Public Health, and at the urging of our State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Butte County Superintendent of Schools Mary Sakuma announced her decision to extend the closure of school campuses in Butte County for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, while focusing on distance learning for students.
