ABOUT CABO PULMO!

Here are 8 facts about Cabo Pulmo National Park that will help you understand why it is such a special place.

1. On June 6, 1995, this marine protected area was created. Ten years later, UNESCO recognized it as a Natural World Heritage Site.

2. It is the largest coral reef in the Gulf of California and provides a safe haven for over 800 species of marine life.

3. In Cabo Pulmo, 5 out of the 7 endangered species of sea turtles in the world are found, including the Leatherback and the Olive Ridley.

4. As well as one of the largest aggregations of sharks, including bull sharks, tiger sharks, hammerheads, blacktip sharks, and the great white shark.

5. The protection of the marine community and the reef has allowed the return of migratory species such as the whale shark, giant mantas, and humpback whales, among others.

6. Located within the so-called 'Aquarium of the World' by Jacques Cousteau, Cabo Pulmo has become a globally renowned destination for diving and snorkeling, with top-level instructors.

7. It is a source of life for adjacent fisheries, exporting 932 tons of fish per year with a value of 22.4 million pesos, contributing to the food security of the region.

8. Cabo Pulmo has become a global example of marine conservation with the participation of the community, which continues to drive the sustainable tourism development model.

The Cabo Pulmo Environmental Education Campus is a space in the Cabo Pulmo community consisting of an Amphitheater, a Learning Center, and a Visitor Center, which are maintained thanks to the support of local residents, friends, and visitors, under the care of the Coastal Institute of Baja California Sur and Pronatura Noroeste.
