Students who are interested in studying abroad during the academic year start the application process in the fall of their sophomore year. The deadline to apply is January of your sophomore year (specific dates below.)
Steps you should take to begin the abroad application process:
1. Attend the Study Abroad Fair in September of your sophomore year: Thursday, September 11th 6-8 pm, Connell Rec Center.
2. Complete the Study Abroad 101 session in Canvas. Learn more here.
3. Start researching programs on the Office of Global Education website.
4. Meet with a Program Manager (a staff member of the Office of Global Education) for the region you are interested in. (Some programs require this step!)
5. Meet with a Carroll School staff advisor to discuss how abroad fits into your 4-year plan and learn what classes you can take abroad.
Staff Advisors are assigned by last name:
Last Name A-B: Jessica Hartley, stonejg@bc.edu
Last Name C-F: Sara Nunziata, nunziats@bc.edu
Last Name G-L: Ally Galati, galatia@bc.edu

Steps to get courses approved for your semester abroad:
Students looking for major, minor, or core requirements should first check the Study Abroad Course Database to see if a course has been approved in the past. Make sure you read all the information at the top of the database to understand how the information should be used.
If a student wishes to take a course abroad that fulfills a requirement at BC, but the course is not listed on the Study Abroad Course Database, the student will need to submit a Study Abroad Course Evaluation Form for that course.
Students looking to fulfill Carroll School requirements abroad should observe the following guidelines:
There are only three Carroll School core classes that can be approved to be taken abroad: Operations Management, Marketing Principles, and Organizational Behavior.
Departments will not approve more than one course towards a concentration. The one exception to this policy is the Management and Leadership concentration: students are able to take two electives abroad towards this concentration.
The Finance Department requires students to seek approval for an elective prior to leaving for abroad. They will not review courses once you have returned. More details for taking a Finance elective abroad can be reviewed here (scroll down to “Study Abroad – Detailed Requirements)
Courses that will serve as the required MCAS electives do not require approval through the Study Abroad Course Evaluation Form. One must be sure, though, that the course in question falls within the domain of arts and sciences. If you have questions about this, email me at grafe@bc.edu to confirm the course is MCAS or complete the Study Abroad Course Evaluation Form and select "MCAS Electives CSOM Core" from the department drop-down menu.
Visit the Office of Global Education guidance on academic policies and course approvals here.
When planning for abroad, assume you can only fulfill two degree audit requirements. Sometimes courses you plan on taking abroad are canceled or are no longer offered. Play it safe by assuming you can only get two. (Note: if you take a full course load at your university abroad, you will get 15 credits transferred back towards the 120 credits you need to graduate.)
