History has proven that that leaders aren’t seeking winning to win over people or gain respect. Leaders are seeking to fight for ideologies to define them as who they are in character and how to seek a role in society. I believe that sometimes proves standing up for what you believe in matters.
First standing up for what you believe makes an individual selfless. In the classic english poem Beowulf, Beowulf showed selflessness by convincing the Danes that he was not there to gain glory and take over denmark by killing off Grendel, he was to restore peace and order by stopping grendel. On line 193-195 of beowulf, Beowulf shows selflessness when he says“ For some way to drive this devil out—If anything will ever end the evils Afflicting your wise and famous lord. Here he can cool his burning sorrow. Or else he may see his suffering go on Forever, for as long as Herot towers High on your hills.” This line shows that beowulf is ready to give up his life to protect hrothgar from an impending doom that grendel has awaiting for him.
Beowulf can assure hrothgar, that defeating denmark’s enemies is beowulf’s job while hrothgar can easily do his duty of ruling the danish people without sacrificing warriors. Just as Beowulf was standing up for himself. Winston churchill proved himself
World War 2 when the world was at war, when oppression was at its worst, During the earliest months of World War II, when the British Empire was at war with the Axis Powers (Germany,Italy, and Japan) fighting along with France and United States England during that time was enduring defeats at dunkirk and the aerial bombing of england despite the R.A.F ‘s efforts to eliminate german fighters from the english homeland. In these darkest hours, Winston Churchill the prime minister of england uged england not to give in to the nazi germany. He reasoned that the purpose of World War II was not a conflict that could be talked out of He urged england itself to have hope and stand strong against the tyranny by fighting the good fight by fighting with the allied forces.
Another reader might claim winning is the point of fighting otherwise you cannot prevail in a fight without winning. Fighting for what you believe in is not the point in a fight; winning is the point of fighting. However, my position is stronger because standing up for your beliefs is selfless and the right thing to do. Since fighting for what you believe can have positive effects and create the defining moments of life. Standing up for what you believe in is the right thing to do.
Taking a stand counts more than winning. On the other hand someone else might think that winning counts more. He or she might brag about winning because they think its fun or alwsome to brage However, my position is stronger because taking a stand means you are tougher and you will stand up for yourself and you could win if you stand up and you take courage stands up for your beilefs heres my evidence to prove that taking a stand counts more and “for the first time in his life that famous prince Fought with fate against him, with glory denied him”. I got this evidence from the story He knew it, but he raised his sword and struck at the dragon’s scaly hide. He stood up for himself even though he would lose he thought he was scared but he will stand up to the dragon. you might be able to win if you take a stand for yourself
Taking a stand counts more than winning in my opinion. Another reader might claim that winning is what counts more. He or she might offer the reason that winning is better because everyone should win at something. However, my position is stronger because you can’t win without first taking a stand. Beowulf is a prince who becomes king one day because he is so strong. Beowulf stands up for his army by fighting for them when there is danger their way to protect them. Beowulf was asleep when the beast came in and Beowulf woke up after all the yelling. Beowulf started to attack the beast after noticing that he had killed most of his people. Beowulf killed the beast by ripping his arm off. Beowulf is the strongest of his group so he protect his loved ones after the beast starts to attack and kill most of them, Beowulf felt horrible after the loss of most of his group because of the beast. Later, Beowulf fights a dragon and kills it but ended up dying too, but he dies to show that he fought for his mates to win and protect them like a real prince/king would do for his army. Our Army, which can relate to beowulf fights for us because there just as strong and brave. They never back down no matter how tuf the situation is because they care about their country just like how beowulf cares so much to die for the people of his land.
Standing up to win is my opinion, because you can’t win without standing up to fight for what’s right or standing up to fight for your present’s, Others opinions are that you should stand up to win because that is what most people want from you. From the movie Beowulf it shows that a beast breaks in and starts to attack, but beowulf’s mates stand up to fight but end up losing just to show that they stood up to try, also beowulf wakes up from the cruelness of the beast and his mates to save most of them by attacking the beast and ripping his arm off for him to kill. But when the beast ran back to his cave the “mother” wanted revenge and played beowulf into making him believe that she was this very beautiful girl that he wanted up until she sent a dragon after him for another challenge because the beast couldn’t beat him, but the dragon was kind of rough for beowulf’s challenge. But beowulf dies to beat this dragon to protect his land. The army fights against other countries to try and beat them for us to live without being
Winning is more important than taking a stand. Another reader might claim that standing up for what they believe in is more important. He or she might offer the reason that standing up is the right thing to do. However, my position is stronger because if you don’t win someone else will win and take the power you want.
In the story of beowulf grendel had all the power all the people that lived in the towny if they were gathered together grendel “Snatched up thirty men, smashed them/Unknowing in their beds and ran out with their bodies,/The blood dripping behind him, back/To his lair, delighted with his night’s slaughter.” The town people were scared because he had all the power. When beowulf arrives to the town he hears of grendel and he wants to defeats grendel and his Mother. Who ever is the winner has all the power. Now, by winning, Beowulf has taken the power from Grendel and returned it to the people.
In the move of beowulf wiglaf ignores Beowulf’s command to stay away and bravely rides his horse to the site of the battle between the dragon and Beowulf. He helps beowulf defeat the dragon. Beowulf’s last words he make wiglaf the king and he then gets all the power of the town.
In both of these examples taking a stand would not help beowulf or wiglaf because if they don’t win they can’t save the town and lose the power. If you take a stand you're just trying but if you win you help more people than taking a stand.
Taking a stand is not about winning. It's all about being there for others. Another reader might claim winning is more important because they feel better about themself. He or she might offer the reason that winning matters most is because if you stand up and don’t have a chance to win, the fight will hurt or kill you, and it’s all a waste. However, my position is stronger because if you stand up it can make a difference. never dared to touch king Hrothgar's glorious Throne, protected by god. Beowulf stands up and fights the dragon. In the end, Beowulf starts to slay the dragon and killed himself. When I got bullied in 4th grade my brother came up and stand up for me and when I got much older I started to stand up for myself and help other kids to stand up for themself to there bullies. In the real world and in beowulf it's all about standing and not about winning.
Winning counts more than taking a stand. Another reader might claim that taking a stand counts most. He or she might offer the reason that you have to try even if you might lose. However, my position is stronger because winning makes you a hero and it protects the village from monsters.
In the story Beowulf, Grendel killed many people, so Beowulf saved the village by killing Grendel. The story teller says,
A prince of the Geats, had killed Grendel,
Ended the grief, the sorrow, the suffering
Forced on Hrothgar’s helpless people
By a bloodthirsty fiend. No Dane doubted.
Beowulf is a king that stands up to protect people to be safe. Winning made a difference for the people. He took away their sorrow. Beowulf killed Grendel’s mother. The narrator says, “The lake water was calm and clean, the whole huge lake peaceful once the demons who’d lived in it were dead.”
Beowulf fought and won the war. Also, the US beat great british and became our own country of the USA. If we didn’t win the American Revolution the USA wouldn’t be our country. This shows how winning counts more.
Taking a stand counts more than winning. Another reader might claim that winning it counts more important than taking stand. He or she might offer the reason that winning is better because its brings glory to the his army. However, my position is stronger because winning is more than standing up. Beowulf as he’d planned; he killed grendel with his bear hands
then it began to melt, the sword And for the first time in his life that famous prince Fought with fate against him, with glory to himself Denied him.
Beowulf defeated grendel and his mother saw grendel was dead.
