We had an incredible first week of band! Hopefully, you were met with lots of smiles and excitement when your child spoke to you about their first week of playing an instrument.
We will continue to follow the same schedule we did this past week for the 2025-2026 school year. However, please be aware that around our concert dates, our schedule will fluctuate to ensure that students are prepared for their performances. More details below about our altered schedule for our December concert.
December 15th - Everyone Will Have Band
December 16th - Everyone Will Have Band
December 16th - First Concert @ BBHES in the Evening Hours
December 17th - No Band Classes!
December 18th - No Band Classes!
December 19th - No Band Classes!
Students should be entering the building through the FIELD HOUSE doors for band classes. Please plan to arrive between 7:55AM and 8:00AM. Students will be welcomed into the building at 7:55AM.
Please make sure your student is prepared for every class. At minimum, all students should be bringing their instrument, band book, and 1" hardback binder (used only for band) to every class.
Next Friday, October 10th, we do not have school. When school is NOT in session, we DO NOT have band class! The schedule will resume on Monday with our regularly scheduled Monday classes.
Practicing is an essential part of learning to play an instrument. Frequency is more important than quantity. This week at home, students are aiming to practice 4-5 days a week (in addition to their band classes) for 10-15 minutes each.

We are excited to share that we have over 100 students that have decided to participate in 5th grade band this school year! And we can't wait to get started!
Please look for your students band schedule to come home on Monday, September 22nd. All band students have been scheduled for band classes twice a week. One class occurs on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday OR Thursday. The second class will occur on Friday for all band students.
We will begin following the band schedule your student brings home on Monday, September 29, 2025. If your student has band classes on Thursday's and Friday's, this means we won't see them for their first class until Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Students will enter the building through the FIELD HOUSE doors when arriving for band classes in the morning.
Please make sure your student is prepared for their first class. At minimum, all students should be bringing their instrument, band book, and 1" hardback binder (used only for band) to their first class. Please consult our SUPPLY LIST for additional details and a list of instrument specific supplies. Remember: Royalton Music is not open on Friday's or Sunday's!
100+ students is a lot of bodies and A LOT OF STUFF! Please make sure all of your students supplies are labeled with their first and last name prior to their first class. (Percussion: This includes your soft rubber mallets, sticks, and many pieces of your stands that hold your bells and drum pad!)
Information regarding the location of the band shuttle buses will be communicated with families as soon as the information has been shared with us.

Congratulations on a successful first year of band and an amazing concert. We are proud of your work! It has been a pleasure getting to know all of you and work with you.
This summer, it is important for you to keep practicing. If you go all summer without playing your instrument, you will forget and lose many of the skills you gained over the past year. Here are some things to consider practicing over the summer:
Work in Tradition of Excellence, Book 1 (your red book) pages 22-32.
Purchase Tradition of Excellence, Book 2 (blue) for your instrument and begin practicing.
Master "5th Grade Summer Hits".
If you haven't already, finish "Band Karate".
Consider taking private lessons for the summer months from a professional or high school student.

PRACTICE CHARTS: Each student has a practice chart for the month of November in their band binder. Students who turn in their practice chart at the conclusion of the month and have at least 15 days of practice initialed on their chart by a parent, will receive a bonus belt! This belt is optional and will not be included in any portion of your student’s band grade.

Band Karate Help!
All 3 pieces of the WHITE BELT are due on Monday, November 11th. The 3 pieces that are due include 2 recordings (both from the band book) and 1 written worksheet. This information can be located in your student's band binder (see the student record sheet after the BLUE Band Karate informational letter) or click here: BAND KARATE STUDENT RECORD SHEET
TURNING IN WORKSHEETS: When students complete their written worksheet, they can bring it to school on any day to be graded. Students have been directed to drop their entire binder off to their lesson teacher when they arrive to school (Students have been asked not to remove worksheets from their binders). The band staff then does our best to make sure all submitted worksheets are graded throughout the school day. When we finish grading worksheets, we put students binders back in their band lockers for pick up at the end of the day. Students can also take close up and clear pictures of their worksheets, and email them to their lesson teacher; however, we prefer to grade the actual worksheet which allows for more easily delivered feedback if necessary.
TURNING IN RECORDINGS: Once students complete their 2 recordings, they are to be emailed into their lesson teacher. See the BLUE "Recording Help Guide" in your students band binder or click here.

Due to the size of our group this year, we will perform as two separate groups split evenly by size and ability; Crimson & Gold. One of our groups will perform at 6:00PM and the other will perform at 7:30PM. Students will only need to be present for their performance. Both concerts will take place in the Cafetorium at BBHES. Students will find out if they are in Crimson or Gold at the beginning of December.

Students should be cleaning their mouthpiece on a weekly basis. Mouthpieces can be washed with a little bit of dish soap and rinsed in hot water.

Our final performance of the year is on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 (this is a change from our original date). Our concert will start at 6:00PM and will be held on the stage at BBHMS! Students should plan to arrive by 5:40PM and will enter the building through the wing nearest the stadium at the MS. The 8th grade band will share the evening with us. It is anticipated that the concert will last no longer than 1 hour.
We will feature all of our Band Karate Black Belt Masters at our final concert. There is still time to finish your work and become part of this group!

Congratulations on a WONDERFUL performance last night! We were impressed with how well the group listened to each other and stayed together on some pretty challenging music. Our next concert is on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 6PM at the MIDDLE SCHOOL. We look forward to seeing you then for our final performance of the year!
There are no band classes the rest of this week. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we will have band class for those students who haven't completed all pieces of their white, yellow and orange belts. These students should plan to come to class with their instruments, books, binders and Chromebook. If students get done with all their work prior to Monday, they will not have band class next week! Please refer to last night's program regarding what work your student has completed. If you believe there is an error, or you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Upcoming Concert, Adjusted schedule, Band Karate & More
Students should be practicing their music for our upcoming concert on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. The concert will begin at 7PM and will be held in the BBHES Cafetorium. Please see our "Concert Dates" page for more information! Please click HERE to listen to and practice with recordings of some of our concert music.
We will have an adjusted band schedule March 11th - March 21st. Please plan accordingly!
March 11th-13th: FULL BAND
March 14th-15th: No Band Classes
March 18th-20th: Band E/I Classes*
*This is a chance for us to give students in need more individualized attention to help their musicianship growth. Students will be notified by Friday, March 15th if this pertains to them.
March 21st: No Band Classes

We currently have a total of 7 Band Karate Masters!!! We are excited to see how many more students complete Band Karate by our March 13th concert. Any student that completes all of Band Karate by Friday, March 8th will be featured at our upcoming concert!

Have you ever considered private lessons for your student? Private lessons are not required, but are the most effective means of developing greater proficiency on one’s instrument! We highly recommend private lessons for all music students. Our "Band Tools" page has a list of "Private Lesson Teachers" in our area.

CONCERT INFO: Our first performance EVER on our new instruments is approaching quickly and the excitement is building! Please make sure that you have Wednesday, December 13th reserved on your calendars. The concert will begin at 7:00PM and will be held in the Cafetorium at BBHES. Students will need to report to the BBHES Band Room by 6:40PM on the evening of the concert.

CONCERT MUSIC: Click here to see what your student should be practicing to prepare for our performance. Each student has a practice chart for the month of November in their band binder. Students who turn in their practice chart at the conclusion of the month and have at least 15 days of practice initialed on their chart by a parent, will receive a bonus belt! This belt is optional and will not be included in any portion of your student’s band grade.

We will have an adjusted band schedule the week of May 29, 2023 to help us prepare for our concert on Thursday, June 1st!

Our final performance of the year is on Thursday, June 1, 2023. Our concert will start at 7PM and will be held on the stage at BBHHS! Students should plan to arrive by 6:40PM and will enter through door H (the opposite end / furthest point from the gymnasium) at the HS. The 6th grade band will share the evening with us. It is anticipated that the concert will last no longer than 1 hour.
We will feature all of our Band Karate Black Belt Masters at our final concert. There is still time to finish your work and become part of this group!
Finally, students should be practicing at home to prepare for our final concert. Please use the links below to help practice the music for our upcoming concert.
