Announcements

Because your students may not have had an online learning experience yet, a clear announcement in your Canvas course should be a bridge to help them cross into that new learning space. An announcement will allow you to list the first few important steps toward continuing their learning online.

These steps are:

• assure students that their learning will continue via Canvas,
• welcome your students to their new ‘classroom,’
• let students know their next steps, and how you will ‘take attendance,’ and finally,
• assure them that they are part of the Bay Path learning community which includes support for online learning.

Once you have your plan established, your announcement can include what to expect for the week, where to find instructions, reading assignments, discussions, etc. You might also let your students know how you will conduct attendance. Their contribution to the discussion is a good way to check whether students are engaging in your course. However, be sure to let them know how you to contact you for the first day of their online week.
