Step 1:

Step 2:

As you read each chapter, write a 3 sentence summary. Summaries should be meaningful, concise, and it should focus on the main idea of each chapter.

Step 3:

Choose 1 vocabulary word from each chapter and explain what the word means based on context clues in each chapter.

Step 4:

After you finish the book, answer these questions on the back of your reading log. Write in complete sentences.

1. What details does the author provide about the setting that helps build the mood for the story?

2. Identify the author’s message (theme) in writing this book.

3. If you had to choose to be one of the characters, whom would you choose and why?

Summer work will be turned in to your teacher on the first day of school. Successful completion of summer work will result in (1) 100% in the quiz grade for assignment and (2) participation in a summer work party for completion of both reading and math summer work.
