Creative Writing

Welcome to Creative Writing! This semester will be an exploration of the many styles of creative writing, the tools that help us generate that writing, and the processes that leads us to improve our writing.

I teach this subject because I believe that what we write reflects what is in ourselves and helps others to understand us and the world through a different perspective. Creative Writing is a senior level semester English elective open to juniors and seniors who have a “C” average or better in previous English classes. In this course, you will become acquainted with the various devices and techniques writers use in writing scenes, personal narratives, short fiction, and poetry. Emphasis will be placed on becoming aware of the vast amount of subject matter to be used in writing poetry and short stories. Vocabulary, spelling, and grammar are included as part of the writing craft, which you are expected to already have mastery in from your previous English classes. You will concentrate on becoming adept at rewriting and polishing your own creative works.
