Ben's consulting work focuses on international legal advocacy, human rights, accountability mechanisms, and strategic use of law for social change and climate action. Recent projects include:
- Advised Center for Climate Crime Analysis to refine theory of change and articulate scope and mission more clearly to potential funders.
- Developed project to apply lessons on effective strategic litigation to the next generation of climate litigation.
- Advised on international and foreign options for accountability relating to extra-judicial killings in the Philippines and related human rights abuses.
- Prepared application for sanctions under US Global Magnitsky Act for conflict-related abuses in central Africa; advised on options and procedure before African human rights mechanisms.
- Advised Center for Climate Integrity on novel causation arguments for mass claims arising from extreme weather events.
- Developed arguments that tax havens violate WTO obligations, and worked with Tax Justice Network and International Senior Lawyers’ Project to assess strategic options and identify advocacy and procedural opportunities.
- Conducted needs assessment to support community and civil society advocacy, documentation and accountability efforts regarding sexual and gender-based violence in Syria.
