1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module is for students who want to make a difference by developing and applying their skills and experience to work with purpose at a global, national and local level in the areas of social enterprise, and NGOs and charities.
Social enterprises make a vital contribution to our economy and communities, in health and social care, the environment, education, improving young people’s life chances, and animal welfare. This module offers an introduction to the expanding social enterprise sector.
In this project-based module you will work in individual roles within a team on a live project with a national/international social enterprise to give you experience of conceptualising, testing and presenting a creative solution, and managing a project. You will develop your creative thinking and collaborative working skills, and will be introduced to a range of content approaches and digital tools to deliver your ideas.

Introduction to social enterprise: global, national and local case studies
Social values and personal inspiration: working with purpose
Collaborative and client-focused working
Content and digital-making skills (e.g. Digital toolkit)
Audience analysis, user experience and digital marketing
Business techniques and models (e.g. Business Model Canvas)
Project management
Presentation
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Taught time will be divided between lectures, tutor-guided workshops, individual and group tutorials to support assignment work, and lab-based workshops with specialist Technical Demonstrators (TDs) to gain digital-making skills.
