1. Brief description and aims of module:
Through exploration of industry issues associated with organising and producing musical events, you develop skills and knowledge appropriate for a wide range of careers. The module allows students to observe, be mentored, and work individually and collaboratively in planning and executing large-scale musical projects.
The module aims to:
Place your learning within a range of industry contexts
Develop your skill and knowledge of those contexts
Engender a personalised approach to career development
2. Outline syllabus
Using performance opportunities in large ensemble contexts, you are involved in a variety of facilitation and production roles. As indicative examples, these include (but are not restricted to) music librarianship, ensemble management, rehearsal scheduling, arts administration, advertising and marketing, venue/stage liaison and management, etc. Within a selected group of these fields, you observe professionals undertaking these roles, receive mentorship, and undertake such roles for yourself. You produce a portfolio of work that demonstrates your newly acquired industry-based skills and insight, which could possibly be used for possible future interviews in the industry.
3. Teaching and learning activities
Classes are composed of a series of group lectures and practical workshops and ensemble rehearsals that allow exploration and the development of large scale performance productions. These introduce the core elements of the skills required to conceive, plan and execute successful large-scale performances.
