1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module develops your skills and experience as a performing musician through developing your ability to engage with advanced critical skills in performance presentation. Indicative skills include (but are not limited to) issues of stage presence, critical listening, as well as management skills for issues of performance anxiety.
This module aims to:

Enhance the professionalism of your practice to meet the needs of the wider music industry.
2. Outline syllabus
Sessions in performance studies introduce you to key skills related to presenting your performances in an advanced and professional manner. These sessions critically examine a number of topics in this regard, including (but not limited to) approaches to stagecraft and stage skills (for both singers and instrumentalists); critical listening skills (including self and peer reviews of performances, and the careful use of existent recordings of work as references); and skills pertaining to the healthy management of performance anxiety.
You produce two projects, allowing you to demonstrate the new performance skills encountered in the module and creatively showcase the critical skills you have used to obtain them.
3. Teaching and learning activities
Classes comprise a series of group lectures and practical workshops that allow exploration and discussion of the new skills introduced to the cohort. Classes introduce the core elements of the skills encountered whilst instrumental lessons provide you with a space to activate the particulars of these skills within the context of your own instrument/voice.
