This module is a pre-requisite for the Level 6 module DRA6100-20 Performance and Media 2.
1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module develops your knowledge of the various production skills and technology used in the production and development of performance work. It provides you with opportunities to explore how production and technology inform conventional theatre, site specific performance, mediatised performance and experimental work.
This module aims to:
Provide you with the skills and knowledge to competently manage and employ the technical and production elements of theatrical performance.
Provide you with the technical knowledge and skills that inform complex production practices.
Develop your understanding of how the technical elements of performance are intrinsic to the direction, design and creative possibilities of live work.
2. Outline syllabus:
In this module you study the theory and practice of technical design, scenography and stage management and learn the skills that will deepen your knowledge of production.
You will be expected to assemble a portfolio that demonstrates your understanding of relevant production practices and which indicates your ability to collaborate on a project involving the three main practical areas of lighting, sound or stage management.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
The module draws on lectures, workshops, project work and peer collaborative study.
Lectures will offer a theoretical and contextual underpinning for the practical work undertaken
Seminars and workshops will involve tutor led practical sessions on a range of topics.
Peer collaborative study. At the beginning of the module you will be placed into teams, in which you will remain throughout the semester and be expected to work professionally and collaboratively both inside and outside the classroom.
