Please note that in order to take this module you must have studied CCO5003-20 Computer 3D Modelling and Visualisation.
Please also note that this module is a pre-requisite of the Level 6 module CCO6007-20 Realtime Animation and Interactivity.
1. Brief description and aims of module:
The manipulation of media in a digital environment is a key technique of modern animation. Within this module you will learn important principles of digital animation such as compositing and keyframe animation techniques. The manipulation of computer graphics in a motion context will develop skills introduced in your first year.
You will learn to record and manipulate sounds, and use recorded sound as a basis for animation. The history of motion graphics will be explored in this module and you’ll be expected to critically analyse motion graphics information sequences in terms of their ability to communicate to audiences.
2. Outline syllabus:
Compositing in 2D
Keyframe animation
Using curves to adjust motion
Motion graphics software
Planning and creating a piece of motion graphics
History of motion graphics
Typography
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Class Hours
Class time include guided exercises and seminars covering elements of the history of motion graphics and its relation to graphic design. You will be expected to take notes and use the class sessions as a springboard to developing your independent research. You will receive individual formative feedback tutorials to help push the critical thinking within your project.
Independent Learning
In your independent learning time, you will conduct research and individual practicing of skills through further tutorials. Predominantly, you will development of your main project and analyse its relation to debates about contemporary and historical motion graphics. You will consider how your work communicates to an audience, by conducting appropriate testing.
