1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module introduces and examines the photographic industry by exploring the diversity that exists in both the nature of businesses, and also the roles within them. You will investigate a particular aspect of the industry and present your findings, whilst being exposed to other industry aspects and professionals. A programme of seminars from alumni and industry professionals, will help you to consider your ambitions for life within and beyond university.
The module aims to:
Identify and employ effective research and presentation skills
improve knowledge of the diversity of the photography industry
enable you to consider areas for your own employability.
2.Outline syllabus:
This module includes seminars, workshops and lectures by individual photographers and a range of industry professionals. Key seminar and workshop activities focus on:
historical development of the photographic industry
review and analysis of contemporary industry and professional bodies
time planning and time recording
consideration of ethical, social and environmental issues relating to the industry
sustainability issue mapping for industry
key skills in communication and IT, delivered through presentations
(oral and written reporting) and assignments.
3.Teaching and learning activities:
You will learn through tutor–led projects and exercises, tutorials, critiques, seminars, workshops, lectures and your own investigations, all documented in a learning log. You will be given a number of assignments, details of which will be given to you in a module handbook, along with a timetable and reading lists. The assignments are designed to help you achieve the learning outcomes of the module, through appropriate challenge and direction. Active learning will be facilitated through Minerva.
