1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module explores designing for production. You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of producing in multiples, and the changing contemporary context for manufacture.
Workshops, taught sessions and a creative brief will help further your knowledge of production methods. Exploring the wider context for a product will help you to recognise when it might be appropriate to consider batch production or low volume manufacture, and identify limitations.
You will have opportunities to engage critically with the social and ethical aspects to production, such as lifecycle and sustainability, and the basics of manufacture logistics. The module is also an opportunity to further develop your technical skills, and projects are likely to include experience of technical drawing and prototyping.
2.Outline syllabus:
The module is delivered as a creative project, and allows you to apply visual research, design development and making techniques from your previous modules into the area of producing in multiples. Staff presentations provide opportunities to engage with additional ideas and concepts.
Working independently, both in the studio and workshops, provides you with the opportunity to develop ideas, material experiments and prototypes, alongside your course peers, and in the workshops, students from other art and design disciplines.
The study visits and case studies offer opportunities to understand how companies work with an International context.
