1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module introduces you to digital designing and making processes, including 3D printing, scanning, laser cutting, CNC milling and associated CAD software. The module incorporates a creative brief encouraging you to innovate between materials and processes (both digital and analogue).
The module introduces you to software packages enabling you to construct form, both from existing files and from scratch. Taught sessions and independent study will develop your CAD skills. You will learn about the potential and limitations of digital making processes through hands-on engagement.
You will also have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of the cultural and technical context around digital making, for example application to small and large-scale manufacture, open source design, or responsive technologies.
