The module will help you to think critically about the role music plays in society and develop an ability to articulate your understanding and knowledge; decolonising the way we approach the study of musicology.
2. Outline syllabus:
You will study a wide range of current issues in music from around the world; looking at the complexity of cultural appropriation, music as a social taboo and how music can be weaponized or controlled by a state. You will have the freedom to explore your own areas of musical interest, applying new ways of thinking to develop a deeper contextual understanding of music that can be carried into exciting career areas such as education or journalism.
