The module will guide you through a series of genre related listening studies, equipping you with skills in analysis and enabling you to articulate thoughts and ideas with a technical vocabulary. The module will also present an opportunity to stamp your own individuality on the music you study; searching for musical connections.

You will explore a variety of music genres and sound worlds in this module and learn how to analyse and discuss what you hear. The module will guide you to make connections between the music and sounds you hear that draw on musical features such as rhythm, timbre, form and lyrical content. In this module we research music by listening to it; learning how to curate sound and compile playlists to inform an audience. The module will invite you to challenge preconceptions of how music is pigeonholed and categorised, teach you how to present a rationale for your ideas and enable you to connect skills in aural analysis to a variety of future careers in music.
