1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module gives you the chance to develop your expressive voice as a performing artist, both on the stage and in the recording studio. The module will develop your technical and interpretive skills on your voice or instrument(s) (or combination thereof) and help you to present your performance(s) to a professional standard, including both live and recorded contexts, although no prior experience with music technology is assumed. Working in small groups, you will undertake a live external performance (including involvement in periphery activities including logistics and/or marketing thereof) and record a studio version of your performance, suitable for promotional presentation on, for example, YouTube.
2. Outline syllabus:
During this module you will extend your ability and proficiency as a performer, improve your ensemble skills (including coordination, rehearsal strategies, communication, balance, etc.), and develop your instrumental/vocal technical skills through group coaching. In addition you will learn how to record high quality video and audio and how to combine the two. This will involve knowledge of recording techniques (e.g. microphone selection and placement, editing, mixing, mastering and production) and music-specific videography skills (e.g. camera positioning, editing, production).
3. Teaching and learning activities:
The module will be delivered by workshops and supervised preparation/studio time. You will learn by doing, including group performance coaching, practical recording sessions, and supervised editorial and rehearsal time.
