1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module provides an introduction to the study of international relations through an analysis of topics such as war and peace, the exercise of power, the global political economy, identities and ideologies, environmental politics, technological change, justice and human rights, empire, and the crisis of the liberal international order. It will enable you to identify some of the principal agencies and organisations involved in international relations, from the UN General Assembly to NGOs working on the ground; and to consider the relationship between the international and the national, the global and the local. It examines the historical origins of the structures and systems within which international relations take place, and of current challenges to the ‘rules based order’.
2.Outline syllabus:
We will use a series of ‘big ideas’ around which to discuss and analysis contemporary international issues, responses and actors.
● Human rights and human dignity: law, justice, resources
