1. Brief description and aims of module:
The Professional Context modules are focused on the professional interior design world. This first Professional Context module is intended to enable you to develop knowledge of contemporary designers, how they work and the projects they have completed.
You will be encouraged to develop knowledge of the different sectors in Interior Design, for example exhibitions and galleries, hospitality projects, hotels and restaurants and the retail sector. You will also have the opportunity to understand the key issues that impact on decision making in contemporary practice, including heritage, sustainability and environment.
2.Outline syllabus:
You will be asked to study, gather and reflect upon, different designers’ work. These studies will be of designers from a range of different sectors and will aim to demonstrate a broad range of approaches to the subject.
You will also be asked to record and document your findings, prepare and present it to your peers.
The syllabus includes:
Research skills
Time management
Personal planning
Documentation
Reflection on learning
Communication and presentation skills
3.Teaching and learning activities:
This is a seminar based module which will usually include:
Staff and student presentations
Record keeping, documentation and display of tasks completed
Independent working
Group discussion, critique and peer review
There may also be variously, visits to factories, production companies, studios, exhibitions and recently completed projects
