1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module focuses on the basics of measured survey drawings for interior design, which are the essential basic tools for design drawings. It will also support you to start the process of learning to ‘read’ a building.
You will be introduced to both hand and computer based drawing methods used in interior design practice
The module aims for you to grow your knowledge of measured surveys of existing spaces and buildings, as these will form the basis for your future design projects.
2.Outline syllabus:
You will work in pairs or small groups to make measured surveys of particular interior spaces. You will learn basic recording and documentation techniques and different methods of representation.
The syllabus includes:
Introduction to surveying
Reflection on learning
Communication and presentation skills
3.Teaching and learning activities:
Alongside self-directed studio work these will usually include:
Seminars
Staff presentation and demonstration
Hands on preparations, sketching and approximations
Measurements, recording and documentation in groups
‘Drawing up’ workshops
