1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module introduces you to the core processes of flat pattern cutting, construction and toiling in product development for fashion design enabling you to recognise form and realise 2D ideas in 3D outcomes. It forms the basis for your technical knowledge, which you will build on throughout the course.
2.Outline syllabus:
You will have opportunity to learn basic methods of construction and flat pattern cutting and build confidence in the design studio environment. These activities will include technical inductions and tasks and will be structured around a brief encouraging you to take a hands-on exploratory approach in the translation of a 2D image to 3D physical outcome.
You will further develop your technical drawing skill and understanding of industrial requirements. You will also be taught the importance of observation and interpretation, fitting, and toile investigation.
You will learn about the potential of pattern cutting and construction techniques through hands-on engagement translating a 2D design into a resolved 3D prototype garment.
You will also be introduced to reflective practice and critical evaluation.
