1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module introduces you to fabric sourcing and textile processes as well as the importance of colour for fashion design. It is the basis for the development of your fabrication knowledge and practice, as well as recognising the relationship between fabric and design, which you will continue to develop throughout the course.
2.Outline syllabus:
Workshops and taught sessions will help further your knowledge of different fabric types and fabric development through manipulation to create texture, and textile applications both traditional and digital; including laser cutting, digital print and embroidery, as well as the associated CAD software. Taught sessions and independent study will develop your traditional and CAD skills in the development of new fabrications. Workshops will also demonstrate the importance of colour as well as selecting appropriately sourced/developed fabrics to create silhouette. You will learn about the potential of fabric and fabric development, in relation to fashion design through creative project briefs. You will also engage with issues regarding intellectual property in relation to fabric development.
