This module is a pre-requisite for the Level 6 module DRA6100-20 Performance and Media 2.
1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module focuses on the introduction, practice and development of essential practical theatre production and staging techniques. Throughout the module you engage in a range of practical and theoretical projects and tests reflecting the best industry practice. You learn Health and Safety regulations and safe working practices.
The module aims to:
Develop practical production practice skills
Introduce professional production practice
Develop collaborative, practical, and organisational skills
2. Outline syllabus:
This module develops basic skills for working in a live performance environment, and enables you to work safely throughout other modules and projects. You undertake a series of short introductory practical and theoretical Stage Management, lighting, sound and Audio-Visual (AV) projects. You develop rigging, focusing, audio, stage management and projection skills through practice and experimentation and receive induction into the University Theatre, lighting gantry and lighting workshop. You learn how to use the equipment and develop safe working practices and Health and Safety processes.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
You develop practical skills during lectures and your assessment is through reflection on your learning and development. All practical tasks are introductory to enable you to develop some basic working practices. You have hands on experience with equipment and through tasks and practical classes develop confidence when using that equipment.
