1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module provides you with the opportunity to develop your theatre making, performance and/or production skills through practice and critical engagement. You will collaborate on the planning, production and presentation of a theatrical performance.
Under the guidance of a tutor, you will be introduced to selected rehearsal methods and production strategies and the various production roles that might be adopted when developing work for performance. The module aims to:
Develop your understanding of some aspects of theatre practice
Provide you with the opportunity to develop group project work in response to a directed brief
Develop your critical thinking and performance making skills
2. Outline syllabus:
The content of the module will vary year on year and in doing so explore a particular performance issue or concern. In any given year, the module will typically focus on the work of a particular playwright, genre or practitioner and the rehearsal and performance strategies appropriate to the presentation of the work of this playwright, genre or practitioner.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Teaching and learning will involve activities such as group work, workshops, rehearsals, seminars, research tasks, practical tasks, presentation tasks and writing tasks
You will be given the opportunity to complete formative tasks before presenting your summative work for assessment.
The first formative task (written work) develops your skills in research and critical analysis
The first summative task (written work) allows you to apply skills in research and critical analysis
The second formative task (performance) relates your skills in research and critical analysis to performance and develops your group skills
The second summative task (performance) draws on and extends your skills in research, group work, critical analysis and performance
