1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module is concerned with exploring the theory and practice of several key practitioners that influenced and shaped developments in twentieth century theatre. It provides you with an opportunity for engaging in theoretical enquiry and skills development through research, practice and reflective analysis.
The modules aims to:
Introduce you to a range of practitioners who have shaped and influenced contemporary theatre.
Enable you to interrogate and understand the elements of the practice and theories that underpin these practitioners’ work
Provide you with a practical, collaborative environment in which to explore various performance practices and explore how the outcomes can be connected to your own work.
2. Outline syllabus:
You will be required to explore the work of a particular practitioner in depth, presenting your critical perspectives on the theory and practice of this practitioner in the form of a written essay. Following this you will then come together in groups to create a devised performance which is influenced by one or more practitioners of your choice.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Teaching and learning will involve activities such as group work, workshops, rehearsals, seminars, and research tasks including practical and written work.
You will be given the opportunity to complete formative tasks before presenting your summative work for assessment.
