1. Brief description and aims of module:
The module aims to:
introduce you to idea of the ensemble and its role in the study and exploration of drama and theatre
provide you with practical skills that allow you to work together collaboratively
develop your awareness of your personal role and how to reflect on your contribution to the ensemble
2. Outline syllabus:
This module introduces you to the idea of the ensemble in a practical and theoretical manner. It is concerned with laying the foundation and developing practical skills in collaboration, teamwork, listening and performance while simultaneously examining the theory behind the notion of successful collaboration. It also lays the foundation for you to begin to connect theory to practice. Through taking part in a series of practical games and exercises and exploring the work of successful theatre ensembles you will be invited to reflect on the elements that make a successful ensemble and the impact this has on performance making.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Teaching and learning will involve activities such as games and exercises, workshops, research tasks including both practical and written.
Workshops are practical in nature and will cover a range of topics related to and including performance and communication skills.
Visiting theatre practitioners will also run various workshops to develop your performance and ensemble skills.
You will be given the opportunity to complete formative tasks before presenting your summative work for assessment. Tutor and peer feedback will be given in class throughout the semester.
