1. Brief description and aims of module:
Performance Project 1 provides you with an introduction to the skills required for live dance performance. The module allows you to explore and develop key skills in technical accuracy, stylistic versatility and performance presence. Through the learning of repertory and set choreographic material you will gain an insight into the importance of being adaptable, attentive and physically and mentally resilient when working in this context. There is a clear focus on developing your understanding of the health and wellbeing aspects that are essential for a career in this employment field. The module culminates in a collaborative project working with a guest choreographer to produce a new live performance.
2. Outline syllabus:
Your module tutor will guide you through a series of repertory classes which you will learn and rehearse regularly in preparation for a performance assessment. Alongside this you will work with a choreographer where you will research, develop and create a new piece of contemporary dance work made for a public audience. During this module you are expected to follow the practical routine and studio etiquette of a professional environment through participation in for example, technique classes, rehearsals, repertory workshops and performances. As the module progresses you will begin to develop a reflective understanding of your own working practices and consider how this aligns with the demands of this arena. Tutorial support will be offered for monitoring your progress across all areas of the module.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
This module will be taught through practical classes, workshops and an intensive performance project. Sessions will focus on your introduction and development into the field of dance performance through learning and rehearsing set repertory. You will be encouraged to engage with different learning materials to inform your learning including, but not limited to journals, films and podcasts. You will have the opportunity to present a mock viva in preparation for your final viva presentation at the end of the module.
