1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module will provide an overview of the mechanics behind the monetisation of music across vital sub-sectors of the industry and examine the key stakeholders roles within the music industry. You will develop a fundamental understanding of the value of your music, intellectual property and begin to expand your business acumen relating to your creative outputs. In addition, we will examine the context of technology, media and culture and how wider trends can influence the music industry and vice versa.

Anatomy of the music business
The role of an Artist manager
Commercialising live music
Monetisation of the song - publishing & the performing right
What is Synchronisation
Digital trends & social media
Product distribution and sales & marketing strategy - the conventional role of the record label.
Sustainability of streaming, the cloud and access over ownership.
How technology creates challenges and opportunities for music business.
The economics of the self-releasing artist.
3.Teaching and learning activities
Group lectures, tutorials, weekly debate, student presentations. Yo will attend the visiting industry lecture series ‘Music think Tank’
