1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module equips you with the theoretical and practical understanding of audio recording as used and understood in professional applications. This will cover recording techniques in the areas of instrumental, vocal, Foley, voice and location.
This module aims to:
Enable you to adequately choose and use microphones for a variety of applications
Enable you to understand, design and use signal path configurations
Equip you with “real world” experience of professional recording scenarios
2.Outline syllabus
The following subjects will be discussed in the module:
Microphone designs, types, polar patterns, and their applications
Studio connections and signal flow topology
Mixing desk and outboard processors
Features and signal flow of Digital Audio Workstations
Recording techniques
3.Teaching and learning activities
The lecture series will present key concepts and ideas related to the applications of audio recording, whilst studio workshops will allow students to experience practical recording tasks.
Individual and group listening sessions will present an opportunity to critically assess and compare recording strategies.
Worksheets and problem-sets will guide your studio time toward a reflexive and self-evaluative inquiry of your learning.
