1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module is the first module of the introductory programme to Creative Arts Practice.
The module aims to develop your ability to engage with methods and materials associated with the production of a body of artwork.
In this module you will be introduced to school workshops through projects that will build your practical skills in a range of disciplines.
By also introducing you to practical research skills we aim to develop your ability to contextualise and reflect on your practice.
The module aims to begin to develop your awareness of the range of opportunities available to facilitate your professional development as a creative practitioner.
2.Outline syllabus:
There are five practical project-based sessions available to you each week, and after a series of introductory sessions you will be expected to sign up for a minimum of two of these weekly sessions.
The five subjects covered are:
Ceramics & Sculpture
Graphic Arts
Live Art
Mixed Media Textiles
Painting & Drawing
After you have signed up, a ten-week programme of practical taught studio introductions and technical workshops in the above subject areas will introduce you to materials and methods used in these disciplines.
Through a series of short workshop-based projects you will develop a personal portfolio of work.
You will be informed and instructed in safe working practices and will work within the university’s health and safety regulations.
3.Teaching and learning activities

Independent study
Talks and seminars
One to one tutorials, group seminars and peer group critiques
Individual tutorials that support regular reflective evaluation of personal ambition and progress
Ethical & sustainable practice in the workshop
Study trips
A range of tasks, learning materials and research guides will be published on Minerva to support the module.
