1.Brief description and aims of module
This module uses Design Thinking methods to give you the confidence to use your own knowledge and experience to generate new ideas that solve real world problems and make a difference to people's lives. The module will show you how to think conceptually, design solutions and make decisions.
In this module, you will be able to demonstrate the following Graduate Attributes:
Able to understand and manage complexity, diversity and change;
Employable, equipped with the skills necessary to flourish in the global workplace, able to work in and lead teams;
Critical thinkers, able to express their ideas in written and oral form, and possessing information literacy.
2.Outline syllabus
The module will develop 3 core stages of Design Thinking.
Conceptual thinking – You will explore how you can learn to think differently and how to define a problem clearly,
Creative thinking - You will discover the difference between logical and creative thinking and use this gain confidence in your own creative ideas.
Decision-making - Finally, you will learn how to filter ideas and justify your decisions through analysis via a clearly defined decision making process.
3.Teaching and learning activities
Our teaching and learning approach will encourage you to identify your own focus on problems and issues and to use general models to define them, solve, them and evaluate them.
Teaching will include a 2 hours lecture workshop followed by a 2 hours seminar. Students will work both individually and in teams. Appropriate technology will be used to enhance learning and as a communication platform both between tutor and student and student to student. All teaching and learning activities will aim to develop student autonomy, engagement, problem solving and analytical skills.
