1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module will introduce the fields of zoology and botany, with a unifying theme of evolution by natural (and sexual) selection. Evolution will be explored as a unifying threshold concept in biology, explaining the diversity of life that we see in nature. Human interactions with nature will be explored including our evolved emotional affinity with natural environments. Creative approaches to engaging with the natural world will also be explored.

Practical sessions will include activities such as
Identifying specimens in the field and the lab
Drawing from specimens
Group fieldwork and communication exercises
‘Create lab’ sessions
These will be assessed as a portfolio of work
