Meet the 5th Grade Team!

Mrs. Cook (Team Red) - karen.cook@barrow.k12.ga.us

Mrs. Cook is beginning her 25th year of teaching. She loves children and knew teaching was going to be her profession at a young age. This is her second year at Yargo and she absolutely loves her 5th graders. Previously Mrs. Cook taught 3rd grade, kindergarten, and 5th grade. She is coming to Yargo from Bibb County. Mrs. Cook attended Georgia Southern University and received her BS in Early Childhood Education.

Mrs. Cook has been happily married to her husband, Edwin, for 26 years. She grew up in Byron, GA and met Edwin while attending GSU. God has blessed them with two daughters, Morgan and Madison. Morgan graduated from UGA in May 2016, went on a mission trip to Japan, and is currently working in Athens. Madison will begin her Senior year at The University of North Georgia, Dahlonega. Mrs. Cook and her family enjoy spending time together, time with extended family, cooking, and attending sporting events. The Cook family is enjoying living in Bethlehem and are thrilled to have cousins living in Bethlehem too. The Yargo family has been very welcoming and Mrs. Cook is extremely happy to be teaching here.

Mrs.Knight began teaching at Yargo in 2012 and was the gifted teacher. This will be her third year teaching fifth grade, and her seventh year teaching overall. She is Yargo's former Teacher of the Year (2016-2017 school year)! Prior to Yargo, she taught 4th Grade for one year in Gwinnett County Public Schools. Mrs.Knight attended Georgia State University for her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education and graduated in 2009. She received her Master's in Learning, Design and Technology at the University of Georgia in 2012 and she completed her Specialist degree in Gifted and Creative Education in 2015, also at UGA!

Mrs.Knight grew up in Duluth, Georgia and resides in Monroe, Georgia. She lives with her husband, Taylor, her daughter, Emmerson Leigh, and their three dogs, Ellie, Swagger and Jax! In Mrs. Knight's spare time she likes to play sports and do arts and crafts. She also loves to do Crossfit to stay in shape! Mrs.Knight is a sports fanatic and loves to cheer for the Georgia Bulldogs!

Mrs. Knight decided she wanted to be a teacher when she got her first job in high school at an elementary school in Gwinnett County as a tutor. From that moment on, she knew she wanted to work with children to help make an everlasting difference in their lives.
