Redefining transformational Leadership
10 Jun, 2022 3pm GMT
Moderator:
Wairimu Mwangi
Most of the times when we hear of the words transformative leadership or transformational leader, what comes to mind is social work that is done by NGOs and CBOs in a bid to create change in the communities. However, transformative leadership cuts across all sectors; be it in business and entrepreneurship, public service or the non-profit sector. Transformative leadership follows an approach that brings change in individuals and social systems regardless of the sector they work in. In its ideal form, it creates valuable and positive change in the followers with the end goal of developing followers into leaders who are accountable, work with integrity and create meaningful impact in whatever they do.

How to be there for a friend going through depression:
A conversation with survivors
21 Apr, 5pm GMT
Panelists:
Sabelo Dube – Survivor
Vladimir Fomene – Survivor
Billie Richardson – Therapist
Depression can affect anyone. Yet, it is still an illness that many people don’t understand. People talk about mental illness much more than they used to. Even so, there is still a stigma attached to mental health. A stigma that prevents many people from being open about depression. If you have a friend with depression, it can be difficult to know what you can do to help them. People experiencing depression may push those closest to them away as a defense mechanism for various reasons, like feeling more comfortable alone or not having the energy to keep up with you. It’s situational, just like your response should be. It can be difficult to know what to say or do to someone who is experiencing depression but with a deepened understanding of why friends push away, we can figure out what to do.
