Life for women was mostly domestic and unjust. The efforts made to protect were very little, almost none. "Husbands had legal power over and responsibility for their wives to the extent that they could imprison or beat them with impunity” (Eisenburg and Ruthsdotter). “Women had to submit to laws when they had no voice in their formation” (Eisenburg and Ruthsdotter). These two quotes show how women were only allowed a domestic life and very little workplace rights. The protections weren’t there due to the fact men were allowed to beat their wives whenever they messed up or did something the men didn’t like. The women weren’t allowed to have any legal power, couldn’t change the fact their husband could beat them with no consequences.
