To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a thrilling book based on real events about racism and prejudice. The book is based in the time of the Great Depression and the main character is a girl called Jean Louise, who ages throughout the course of the book. A black man named Tom Robinson is wrongly accused of raping a white woman named Mayella Ewell. Jean Louise's dad, Atticus, defends Tom even though the town threatened him not to do so. Tom is unfortunately convicted, even though Atticus had a strong defense. I thoroughly enjoyed this book because it was based off of real events that can also teach us a lesson about what racism was like in the 1960's. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about dark topics, things based off of real events, or historical fiction. (Mandalay. Grade 7)
