The Young Elites by Marie Lu

The Young Elites was written by Marie Lu. This book is about Adelina the main character who grows up in a horrible family with a really cruel father. Her mother had died a few years earlier from a blood fever that swept through the country. Adelina and her younger sister Violetta had also been infected but had survived. Adelina, such as some other survivors were left with some weird markings identifying them as malfettos. A rumor spreads that they were gifted with special powers allowing them to do non-normal things. Even though their identities stay hidden this group of survivors with powers have come to be called The Young Elites. I enjoyed reading this book very much but I gave it a rating of 2 and a half because the ending was very sad. The genre of the book was a mix of action, mystery, and fiction. (Enya, Grade 6)
