“The Slaughterman’s Daughter” by Yaniv Iczkovits is a novel based on a historical genre. The book had a pretty realistic atmosphere and story plot. Fanny Keismann, sister of Mende Speismann goes on an adventure to find her husband in another city and force him to sign a contract for divorce. The story plot was quite surprising as Fanny, a girl, who took her skills as a slaughterman from her dad. Fanny keeps her butcher knife on her leg everywhere she goes, and that caused a LOT of trouble. This book took a pretty long time, and some of the chapters were really boring, and confusing. The vocabulary used was also confusing because some of the words were in Russian. The names the author created overwhelmed me because there were a lot of characters and it was in another language I am not familiar with. Overall, I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy history, and drama as genres; and those who are over 12 years old because of the language used in the novel.  (Ellery. Grade 8)
