The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod Ninth Grade Slays by Heather Brewer is a book using conventions from the mystery and thriller genres. It is the sequel to the first book Eighth Grade Bites and is about a teenage boy who is secretly a vampire. It seems like everything is going well until he makes a new friend. But who does he expect him to be? I enjoyed reading this book as it was extremely suspenseful and it kept making me wonder what would happen next. An unexpected twist happens toward the end of the book, which surprised me. Admittedly, I was not fully satisfied with the ending which is understandable as it is part of a series, and books in series typically don’t always end the story as it continues. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy suspenseful mystery and thriller stories about vampires. (Seoyeon. Grade 8)

The Chronicles of Vladimir Todd: Ninth-Grade Slays is the second book of the Chronicles of Vladimir Todd series. Vlad started ninth grade in Bathory High School with Henry, his best friend, but it becomes harder to keep his identity a secret after Henry’s cousin Joss moved to town. Vlad’s uncle Otis cautions him to look out everywhere he goes as there is a vampire slayer in Bathory. Otis comes back to Vlad to take him to the Siberian Council in Russia. He is sent there to practice telepathy and control others. When he came back, the girl he likes confesses and a person who was close to him becomes the enemy. Will he agree with the confession? Who is the person who became his enemy? I recommend this book to one who is interested in the genre of paranormal and thriller. I really like this book because it shows how he never gets scared and never worries when trying to achieve something. (Ahyun. Grade 8)

The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod (Ninth Grade Slays) by Heather Brewer is the second book of the “The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod” series. Now in ninth grade, Vlad starts to face a lot of issues whilst still trying to hide his vampiric identity especially when Joss, Henry’s cousin moved to their school. The story was appealing to me as the more I read it, the more I wanted to know what would happen next. There were many interesting characters in the story and each one was well developed/written and it allows the reader to be connected with them in a way. I was satisfied with the ending and am looking forward for the book. I’d also recommend this book to those (mainly above the age of 10/11) who like reading Mystery, Thrillers and stuff related to Vampires. (Stella. Grade 8)
