This book has 216 pages excluding the preview of another book, which is an additional 46 pages. With 216 pages about the second world war, you would expect it to be sad to a heartbreaking level, but the thing about this book is that it is written from 10-year-old Bruno’s perspective making this war sound like another normal day. This is because Bruno is only 10 therefore he does not understand the cruel things happening to the Jews. whenever he gets close to finding out, he refuses to believe anything bad could ever be happening to them. Therefore this book gives you a different perspective of the war, and opens your eyes to all the kids who were told by their parents that the soldiers were doing good things in those camps, which was certainly not true. This book fits best into the genre of historical fiction and would be a good book to look into, if you are interested in gaining some knowledge about this tragic event. (Emma. Grade 7)

"The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" is written by John Boyne and is about a boy named Bruno who moved from his home in Berlin to somewhere far away. Bruno has no friends in his new house and, there are no kids anywhere. There was only a big wire metal fence. One day Bruno goes for a walk along the fence and meets a boy around his age. The boy’s name is Shumel, and he was bald and was wearing striped pajamas. Their friendship grew stronger and stronger each day, and they started to know a lot about each other. Shumel's story is that he was sent to out-with with his family by the Nazis from Poland, he never knew why. (Nika. Grade 6)

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne is a historical fiction book about a young boy (Bruno) moving out of a big fancy house in London to a smaller house in the middle of nowhere but what Bruno does not know is that his dad is in the Nazi and had to move closer to the concentration camps (the other side of the fence). Throughout the book, he sees people on the other side of the fence which is how he ends up meeting a young boy around his age (Pavel). Pavel and Bruno talk in secret and soon become good friends. In the end, they finally decide to meet up on the other side of the fence, Pavel is a Jew in a concentration camp. The reading level of this book is low as it is an easy book to read, I personally didn't love this book but it was not bad, many people have liked it so I recommend it if you like historical fiction books.   (Elsa, Grade 7)

The boy in the striped pyjamas by John Boyne shows the horrible history of the Nazis and the Jews in the time of the Holocaust. A little boy named Bruno has to move from a big city to a petite house because of his fathers work demands, little does Bruno know that his house is next to a concentration camp. Bruno meets another little boy named Shmuel form the other side of the fence. The main genres of this book are historical fiction and realistic fiction. I think the author showed Bruno's thoughts and point of view well, they made sure that you could tell Bruno had no idea about what was going on behind that fence. This book definitely takes patience to read, but I think its worth it. This book is also quite depressing so if you get emotional easily, I wouldn't recommend it - but, if you like reading about important historical events and you like sad books; this is the one for you!  (Mandalay, Grade 7)

The book, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne is a historical fiction about a family during WW2. The main story is about a family, that has moved next to a concentration camp. Also, there were kids in the family. But one of them has escape the house and went to the concentration camp. The parents definitely didn't like that and the kid was making friends there. In my opinion, (think I don’t fit that well with Historical fiction) I felt that this book is slow. It is not that boring, but the story was slower than the books I enjoyed. So, think this is the problem with this book. But if you have tons of time and a lot of patients, and if you are interested in WW2 or more specifically, the holocaust you will enjoy this book. For me, it wasn’t my style. (Youngmin, Grade 7)

The boy in the striped pajamas is a book about a little family in Germany who was working for Hitler and moved from a busy fun town to a small little house somewhere in the woods next to the concentration camp due to the father's work orders. If you read this book, you will find it very sad and interesting, especially the story's ending. This is also a very good book if you wanna learn about a different family's point of view during WWII and it will get you questioning a lot of things such as; “how stupid could the parents be to move their kids next to a concentration camp?” or “why couldn’t the parents get there in time to save their son”. If I’m being honest, this book has a lot of details which made the book seem longer to me but if you’re into or interested in books like that, I would totally recommend this book. And if you get tired of reading the book, there is an official movie about it that tells the exact same story. In my opinion, this book could change your whole point of view in life.  (Lilly.
