“Shouting At The Rain” by Lynda Mullaly Hunt (the author of Fish in a Tree) is a realistic fiction novel about Delsie, a young girl who is an orphan that lives with her grandmother. Delsie loves storms, hurricanes, and things of that nature. She lives in Cape Cod with her grandmother, surrounded by her kind and loving neighbors. During the summer, her friend Brandy visits her. Brandy seems a bit different, and when Brandy ditches Delsie in favor of her richer, better-off friend, Delsie becomes heartbroken. Delsie eventually meets Ronan, who is supposedly a liar and a thief. And although Ronan doesn't really want to be friends with Delsie, they start to bond and become good friends. This story is (essentially) about the blooming friendship between Ronan and Delsie, and how they build each other up. I really like this book, some parts were boring but most of it was interesting. This book has short chapters (2-5 pages per chapter), so I recommend this book to grades 6 and above.  (Amerie. Grade 8)
